Hurricane Mitch: High winds and floods devastated Central America. Tens of thousands of people died, many more were made homeless. This natural environmental disaster was exacerpated by heavy deforestation, causing rivers to overflow. The majority of people who were affected were from the poorest communities, living close to rivers.
